Students read together, teachers connect across classrooms, families join the conversation, and music, art, imagination, discussion, and creativity all become part of one shared experience.

When your school selects a Kids Read ONE Story program, you receive access to one complete schoolwide reading experience built around a single featured book.
Our goal is to give your school the freedom, resources, and creative tools to make that story come alive throughout your school community.
ONE Story is designed to reach far beyond a single classroom. Students, teachers, librarians, administrators, reading specialists, counselors, music and arts staff, and other school personnel can all take part. When family resources are included, parents and guardians can participate as well.
We want the story to move through the entire school.
The complete ONE Story experience
Each ONE Story program is built around a featured book and may include a wide range of supporting resources and experiences. Depending on the title, these may include ebook and audiobook access, educator discussion prompts, classroom and schoolwide activities, family discussion materials, student creative challenges, original music, recorded podcasts, radio plays or audio dramas, arts and music integration, student writing opportunities, participation materials, and other resources created specifically for that story.
Every book may offer a slightly different experience, but the purpose is always the same: to help the story travel beyond the page and become something students can hear, discuss, imagine, create around, and remember.
Make the experience your own
Every school is different, and we want ONE Story to work naturally within your school culture. Teachers may adjust pacing, discussion, activities, celebrations, and student participation to fit the needs of their students.
Use the story in classrooms, in the library, in assemblies, in reading groups, in music and art classes, and in family engagement. Let students write about it, draw from it, perform it, question it, debate it, and create something new because of it.
We want your school to make the experience its own.
Share it throughout your school
The resources provided through ONE Story are intended to be used generously throughout your participating school community. We want students and staff to have access to them and to use them fully.
We simply ask that the materials remain within your school community. They should not be resold, sublicensed, distributed to other schools, posted publicly online, uploaded to open file-sharing systems, or turned into a separate commercial product, curriculum, or program.
The principle is simple: use everything we provide to serve your students, and help us protect the creative work so we can continue creating these experiences for schools everywhere.
Protecting the people who create the story
Every ONE Story experience represents the work of authors, illustrators, musicians, actors, educators, producers, publishers, and other creative partners. Those creators retain ownership of their books, recordings, music, scripts, artwork, and other original materials.
Your school receives the freedom to enjoy and use those materials as part of the ONE Story experience while helping us protect the people who created them.
One book. One program cycle.
Each ONE Story program is designed for one schoolwide reading cycle during the academic year or program season in which it is provided, unless a different access period is specifically offered.
During that time, we hope the selected story becomes part of the life of your school. Students may hear it in the hallways, talk about it at lunch, listen to it at home, argue about a character, sing a song inspired by it, create artwork from it, or write an ending we never imagined.
That is exactly what we hope happens.

We will never think of ONE Story as simply an ebook, an audiobook, or a collection of classroom materials. We are creating something larger: a shared experience that brings a school together around one story.
We promise to create stories worth talking about. We promise to give teachers useful resources without telling teachers how to teach. We promise to invite students to participate rather than simply consume. And we promise to create opportunities for reading, listening, conversation, imagination, music, art, and creativity.
